Here is a something I had to proof: "I was Brittany's eleventh grade english teacher and currently her twelfth grade english teacher." Does the word "am" need to be in the sentance before "currently?"

Yes, for clarity it does. While someone might be able to figure out what you mean, why not make it easy for everyone. Also, the word "English" is capitalized.
